Selective Transparency

The behavior of light in matter

Trasparenza 2.jpg

A set of activities exploring the interaction between light and materials, with a particular focus on selective transparency. By analyzing the light spectrum and using different light sources and filters, participants can observe how not all radiation is blocked by an opaque object. The kit includes a camera for observing near-infrared radiation and experiments to “play” with the perception of colors that exist beyond the visible spectrum.

The kit includes:
– near-infrared (NIR) camera
– black electrical tape
– black card
– diffraction grating
– RGB filters
– 2 polarizing filters
– assorted colored markers
– black whiteboard marker
– selective transparency exhibit
– set of cards with colored prints
– instructions
